The former president of Tanzania, Ally Hassan Mwinyi, was at Kisutu resident magistrate court yesterday to testify against an estate agent, Abdallah Nasoro Mzombe (39) who is facing charges of stealing from the former who was the landlord.
When Mwinyi arrived at the court premises, he went straight to the court room used by the magistrate in charge of the court.
When journalists wanted to know what the former president was there for, the resident magistrate refused to reveal any information to them.
They were also barred from the court room by security officials.
At 11 am the accused was taken into the courtroom, but still the journalists were not allowed in.
However, according to the charge sheet, prosecutor Charles Anindo said that on 15th January last year and on 10th July this year, the accused is alleged to have stolen Shs 17,640,000/- which was rent collected on behalf of the former president from his house number 481 plot A in Mikocheni for 2011/2012 and 2012/2013.
It was also alleged that Mzombe stole 19.8/- million which was rent money he had collected for house number 55 block C Msasani village for year 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 which belonged to the former head of State.
The case which was first heard on August 21 this year, presided by Resident Magistrate Geni Dudu was postponed until October 22, this year.
